The advice all over the internet about what to buy for your baby, is to not buy baby blankets, because undoubtedly people will get them for you as gifts, even if they’re also not on your registry.

I can say that this indeed happened. Although I did buy her her first blanket, other than the universal Motel 6 baby blanket that everybody gets. Which is the featured image of this post,

However, we were gifted not just any baby blankets, but handmade baby blankets.

I’m not sure it can get much cozier than that.

The first handmade blanket we were gifted was a reversible quilted piece from a friend at my Lome Baby Sprinkle.

I was shocked to see that people actually do this sort of craft, and my gosh, it’s beautiful. It’s warm, the perfect size, and the colors are so cute and can go with any decor. Definitely my whimsical vibe.

The next handmade blanket we received was from H’s Aunt, and it’s made from the softest flannel and also reversible. I’ve definitely cozied up with it myself a few times, while Fi really enjoys the texture along the grid lines and looking at both sides as it’s super stimulating. It’s also on the larger side, so it’ll last and be in use for a long time!

We then received a plum colored blanket from the lead of our Embassy’s knitting and crochet club. It’s a beautiful circle blanket, with a flower design. It’s so soft and intricate.

And last but certainly not least is a blanket made by my very own cousin. She was so thoughtful in choosing colors that I referenced in my baby registry, and made this blanket from bamboo, so as to not be so hot for Fi in our current Lome climate. It makes me so emotional thinking about the thought.

Each of these blankets was just carefully packed and are making their way to our next post. I can’t wait to see how they’re used throughout her life and I can certainly feel that she’ll love them as much as I do.

And don’t worry if you’re shopping for baby blankets because you’re not craft savvy. I wish I could’ve made such an item as well.

It is the thought and intention that counts, even if the tiny human doesn’t realize it yet.

Our house is empty now except for the items that we’re donating and our luggage. Oh, and the large obnoxious embassy furniture that scratches if you touch it. *eyeroll*

We have exactly a week left here. It’s a strange feeling that I cannot describe, however we have so much in store. Flights, reunions, roadtrips galore, and then six weeks in familiar Washington D.C. before starting the next chapter with Fi and her furmanos (hermanos-brothers in Spanish) abroad.

More to come.
