Some will argue that those two things just will not go together. I agree, but it is this rooms reality.
I’ll admit, that even though I’m posting about a guest room, I’m really just procrastinating on cleaning the rest of the house before we go away for a week.
I did get through the office, the twin bedroom, most of the Jack and Jill bathroom, and now this guest room.
My goal was the whole house, but I guess splitting it up this way, then using tomorrow to clean the other two bathrooms, our bedroom, the kitchen, and living room, and mopping the floor, and I guess packing will just have to be my reality since we depart tomorrow night (!!!)
I’m just really exhausted these days. And I have to admit that today I’m a bit heartbroken.
My last post I wrote about the city that I call home and what it’s meant to me. In the time that I posted that, a teacher had been kidnapped and murdered, and an absolutely insane shooting spree broke out last night there, killing four and critically injuring three.
My heart goes out to the families afflicted, and my city that just can’t seem to catch a break this week.
I’m glad everyone I know there is okay.
So today, I’ll share a room that rarely gets any use. It was a guest room once, for H’s sister that flew here with him when he arrived in Togo. It looks a lot different now, I have to say. We sometimes take a staycation in that room, but if I’m being honest it’s when I washed the sheets too late in the evening. Honestly, the dryer at our home takes 4 hours.
But then again, it could be worse. Perspective I guess.
Ultimately, I wanted this room, and our bedroom to be the brightest rooms in the house. They are not just in the literal sense from the amount of sunlight, but color also.
It’s a room that with dark furniture and linens initially, it didn’t seem complete. The attached bathroom has some speculative tile that well, I just don’t understand. It also pops up in the Jack and Jill bathroom, and in the half bath.
I did get crafty and hide the half bath tiles with paper though. I’ll share that one day.

This tile is just….weird.
Luckily, in the bathroom I was able to lay down a Gathre Home Mat which is a dusty rose color, and use white towels to kind of minimize and blend that space. The weird tiles aren’t as noticeable anymore.
Bless.
Anyways, continuing on into the bedroom:

There’s not much in here truthfully.
I like it that way though, if you make it all the way here, (which is a long trip and not at all easy), your room shouldn’t be overly done. I believe it should be bright, light, and simple.

What is a post without Stitch, my velcro dog? I mainly wanted to focus on the rug, which is a West Elm wool pebble rug that I’ve had for 6 years now and it still has it together. Sometimes you have to choose your battles in items that are expensive, and I by no means am claiming that West Elm has great quality everything, but sometimes you just win one.

Looking up you see the bright yard, all the green, and I promise that if you woke up here, you’d probably hear knocking (which is really the birds seeing their reflection on the glass and either trying to impress or defend, I can’t really decide which.

And then my star of the room.
This was all about textures. Since the walls are bare, everything is mostly just beige, I wanted a little pick me up. Something that is comfortable, but also simple, yet reminds you where you are in a maybe subtle way.
Enter the pagne headboard. In the twin bedroom post, I explained that I wanted to cover up the wooden headboards that didn’t do anything but make the room look chunky and heavy. And what better way to bring a bit of Togo in my very not Togo home, well, in Togo, I brought in some local fabric. The patterned lumbar pillow is also West Elm, and I’ve had that for a few years as well, so finding fabric that wouldn’t clash, but match was key.
The linen bed spread is from Bed Threads, while the quilt and sheets are from CB2. It’s not easy to see, however the quilt has a wavy pattern, which is subtle but ties in the wavy pattern of the lamp and an aspect of the headboard.
I posted a similar photo on instagram of this view, and West Elm went ahead and liked it.
I know, not a big deal, but it made my little heart a little happy.
Honestly, I wish I had more to say.
I however don’t, and that is okay too. I won’t take up more of your time today.
Happy almost weekend to where you are, we will be traveling around the world yet again for some very exciting things that I’ll share soon. So the jet lag will be real for the next week, but I know it’ll be worth every moment.
Any guesses where we’re headed?
Until next time,
Carrie
