I’m back!

Before my last post, I said that I would write about what my new side hustle is, and if you’ve been following for awhile, you’ll know that the last NINE months quite frankly haven’t been the easiest for me. It’s still not, however I spend most of my days dreaming about the future. Future life, home, country, my mental Amazon wishlist. It’s probably not healthy, but it has started to put things into perspective for me.

And for every day that has felt like Groundhogs Day over and over again, having something to dream about has put me in a better mood.

And yet…

I’m also still in sadness about everything happening in America and abroad. Times are very weird, and it just all seems so unfair. However in all of that, I have found a hobby. It was born out of necessity really, so it wasn’t organically grown, but nonetheless it helps me get by sometimes.

The name of this post is my identity on my other instagram page: @witch.of.the.yeast

Get it? Like a weird play on The Wizard of Oz? I know, extremely cheesy. Although, lots of good cheese pulls ahead.

Bread just isn’t good anywhere that I’ve gotten it in Togo. I don’t mean pastries, but sliced bread or bread loafs. Baguettes don’t cut it for me, and the others just leave me wanting. No offense to Togo, but I believe the humidity and climate do no justice to food here. There also isn’t a lot of variety. So it naturally first started with bread.

And other baked goods….

Conchas ๐Ÿ˜€

And then probably my most successful adventure yet….BAGELS!

It was a big undertaking, but they’ve turned out generally great! Here are some reviews:

I even was featured by Old Bay Seasoning for my OldBaeGoals, get it? If you’re unfamiliar, it’s a spice blend mostly used for seafood from the mid-Atlantic. But don’t knock it on bread, the savory and spicy pairs well with cream cheese.

Naturally some people liked them, and then are some who are skeptical to the idea.

Nonetheless, exciting!!!

I don’t expect to make money. I realistically couldn’t charge all that my goods are worth on the local market here. It would be nice though, as there is not a lot of opportunity for work here. This interest of mine was just born out of the pandemic, because what else is there to do? Cooking has become a thing, we’ve invested in some really nice cookware (I’m a Staub girl forever), and it keeps me busy for now.

A celebratory brunch I hosted!

Sometimes, I don’t want to cook dinner. Sometimes it feels like a huge undertaking, and yet, when I cook, I feel rewarded. Rewarded with a skill that I can’t wait to teach my future children one day.

Until then, I cannot wait to get my hands on all the ingredients I’ve been missing.

Thanks for following as I build my nest, wherever that may be,

Carrie

PS: Get ready to be a tourist in IL, WI, TN, DC, MA, and anywhere else I end up in the next three months ๐Ÿ˜€
